Bradford 9 Exeter II 15
A much under-strength Bradford team performed gallantly against strong opposition. We trailed 6-2 after the first period but fought back to 8-6 by the halfway stage, with strong goals from Jon Dare-Williams and Andy Ogg, who finished with four. Tom Shoebridge battled strongly up front and, once he got his eye in, emergency goalkeeper Tim la Touche pulled off a couple of smart saves.

Bradford 12 Weston-super-Mare 13
We felt we were extremely unlucky not to take a point in a one-goal defeat at Weston earlier in the season. And so to a frenetic return – and ten times more frustration at another last minute loss! Bradford, playing with great spirit, led 5-1 early in the second period. Once Weston had caught up, the game remained even until a highly controversial last period when a “goal” by Andy Ogg was disallowed (the whole of Bradford swears the ball hit the back stanchion before rebounding out) and then, unbelievably, a Weston shot struck the Bradford post and was given as the winning goal. Grrrrrrrrrrr…

Bradford 24 Bristol Central II 16
A 15-goal start for Bradford in this Bristol & West Handicap KO tie didn’t seem terribly generous beforehand, but an excellent team performance ensured the 2009 winners (and victors over Bradford by a narrow margin) were comfortably defeated. Now for the semi-final! Bradford lost the first and last quarters by a 6-2 margin but played with great spirit in the second and third periods, when goalkeeper Roger Chapman made some excellent saves and there were quality goals from Stuart Moore and Jim Robinson.

UWIC 8 Bradford 18
Four goals in the first quarter by Mike Garland put Bradford well on their way to the club’s biggest away victory for many a moon. The loyal eight who ventured into Wales clearly enjoyed the miniscule Cardiff pool (even though a shallow end goal of similar height to the crossbar at Twickenham invariably proved an elusive target). Mike Garland finished with six and Ciaran McGlue and Jim Robinson three apiece.

Bradford 12 Harlequins 9
Hugh Gaskell-Taylor – or Sub-Lieutenant Gaskell-Taylor as we must now call him – made his farewell appearance with a goal before leaving to join the Navy. Good luck Hugh - thanks for your loyal service to the club since student days at Bath University! Bradford raced into a 4-1 first period lead. Then we were pegged back to 6-5 at half-time before stretching clear by scoring four without reply in the third. Andy Ogg was Bradford’s top marksman with five.

Bath University 11 Bradford 8
From 5-2 down at one stage, Bradford fought back to 5-5. We were also in with a chance of snatching a point after recovering from 7-5 down to 8-7 and then 9-7 to 9-8 – only for the students to score twice in the last 30 seconds of a truncated final period. Jim Robinson scored two super goals – one from distant, the other from the pit – and there were also two each for Mike Garland, Ciaran McGlue and Andy Ogg.

Weston-super-Mare 10 Bradford 9
How frustrating! Just one minute and 13 seconds remained when a Weston goal levelled the match at 9-9. Then, Weston called a time-out and a shot from the arc sneaked inside the post for a winner with just 13 seconds to go. Earlier, Bradford had played splendidly to build a 6-2 half-time lead. But the loss of Mike Garland and Mike Coppin, both to three majors – plus a couple of controversial refereeing decisions – proved crucial, allowing Weston to make a gradual recovery. With three minutes remaining, the score was 7-7. Goals by Kieran McGlue, who finished with five, made it 8-7 and then 9-8 to Bradford before Weston stole the points at the death.

Harlequins 7 Bradford 14
A worrying trend is developing this season… each time Lamb Chop attends a match, we win. Our lucky mascot was there again at Kingswood Leisure Centre in a brand new cardboard box and there is now no doubt that his support will remain essential to ensure a successful campaign. But how will Coppin cope with playing AND controlling a large, horned beast when we play our September matches? This was an excellent Bradford performance. We controlled each quarter, with Jim Robinson and Andy Ogg both contributing four goals. A special word, too, for Tim la Touche, now officially retired but in great form as deputy goalie – including a memorable penalty save!

Bradford 11 UWIC 10
Even Mike Coppin’s lamb appeared enthralled as Bradford spectacularly fought back from 10-7 down with three minutes remaining to claim the season’s first victory. Yes, it’s the lambing season. And as Mike never misses an opportunity to cement his title as Bradford’s perpetual major king, two-day-old Lamb Chop was given a grandstand view – from a cardboard box.
Bradford reached half-time at 5-5. But the Cardiff visitors took charge early in the final period when even BoA coach Lou rather sheepishly confessed that defeat looked inevitable. Then, out of the blue, Bradford lamb-basted UWIC with three goals in 66 seconds by Andy Ogg, Jon Dare-Williams and Ciaran McGlue, before Andy claimed the winner with 11 seconds remaining. Martin Post was outstanding in defence and Ciaran top-scored with six.

Frome 13 Bradford 5
Ciaran McGlue's excellent three-goal debut was the only consolation after a disappointing display by an understrength Bradford team. The other scorers were Hugh Gaskell-Taylor and Clive Milner.

Bradford 5 Bath University 5
A little shooting practice may not go amiss after the disappointment of dropping a point against the students in our first B&W League match of the season! Chances missed - including five our of nine man-ups - ran well into double figures. Then, in the last period, the inevitable happened - from 5-3 up, Bradford allowed the Uni to fight back and clinch a draw with just 29 seconds remaining.
04.02.10
Bradford 13 Swindon Dolphin 15
A good work-out before the start of the B&W season saw Bradford defeated when, from level pegging at the start of the last minute, Swindon scored twice to clinch victory. Highlight of the last quarter was a long-range strike by the seemingly ageless Mike Coppin, who looked as surprised as anyone when the ball flew into the top right hand corner of the goal. Skipper Andy Ogg led the Bradford scoring with five.
