Weston-super-Mare 11 Bradford 7
The shallowest of shallow ends makes the Weston pool a nightmare to play in. Pity poor Weston – they have to put up with sore knees in every home game. It certainly didn’t suit Bradford. We were 7-2 down in the first period before adjusting a little more to the conditions and recovering to trail only 8-6 at one stage in the third. The game was notable for a farewell appearance by Simon Durrant (see news) and a debut by Damian Orton (more news). Andy Ogg topped the scoring with four.

Newton Abbot 18 Bradford 7
Congratulations – and thanks – to the loyal eight who made it down to Teignmouth! Not much reward, admittedly, but the result was hardly a surprise against a home team with a considerable amount of National League experience. It was 2-2 at the end of the first period, but we conceded eight goals in the second quarter – game over! Mike Garland was our main scorer with five. Our stand-in goalkeeper was apparently outstanding, making four one-on-one saves (information provided by Tim, so it must be right).

Harlequins 9 Bradford 17
Bradford have rarely made such a positive start! Two goals from Hugh Gaskell-Taylor in the first 33 seconds contributed to a 6-nil lead at the end of the first period . . . and all against a team we had to work hard to beat at Bradford earlier in the season. Andy Ogg (6), Jim Robinson (5) and Hugh (4) led the scoring, but, with Ian Chesworth strong in defence, this was a good display in all respects.

Bradford 10 Frome 20
A derby match of 20 majors saw Frome in charge once they had established a 5-3 lead in the first period. Jim Robinson was again in sharp shooting form for Bradford, netting five, but a 5-1 deficit in the third period led to a disappointing and heavy defeat.

Bradford 13 Frome Development 7
Bradford raced into a 9-1 half-time lead before taking a collective foot off the pedal against a team featuring ex-BoA stalwart Andy Coombs and his son Tom (Bradford’s Young Player of the Year last season!). Jim Robinson was top goal scorer with four; Hugh Gaskell-Taylor added three.

UWIC 11 Bradford 10
One of Bradford's best performances of the season - but with a hugely disappointing result. The UWIC pitch is so narrow it makes Bradford pool look like Crystal Palace, so it takes a while for visiting teams to adjust. Bradford recovered confidently from 6 - 4 down at the halfway stage to grab a 10 - 9 lead at the start of the final quarter. But a couple of chances were then missed and UWIC, surviving two late time-outs by Bradford, recoverd to take the points. Jim Robinson (4) and Mike Garland (3) led the scoring and there was an excellent defensive display by Martin Post.

Frome Development 3 Bradford 5
The least said about a very poor match the better! Bradford should have won comfortably but it needed goals in the last period by Clive Milner and Andy Ogg to secure the points.

Bradford 21 Bath University 2
It's a long time since Bradford scored nine goals without reply in a single period! But that's how dominant we were against a demoralised student team. In fact, only goalkeeper Roger Chapman and Mike Coppin failed to register a goal - which underlines the excellent team work displayed throughout. Newcomer Luke Manthe and Jim Robinson topped the goals chart with four a piece.
23.04.09
Bradford 13 Harlequins 9
A close match until the latter stages of the third period, when goals by Clive Milner, Andy Ogg and James Bancroft took Bradford from 7-7 to 10-7. After that, the points were secure, Andy Ogg finishing with five goals and Jon Dare-Williams three.

Bristol Central III 25 Bradford 24
Bradford received a 15-goal start in this B&W KO match – and needed it. Central’s line-up included the recently departed GB National Performance Director Nick Hume, plus others with National League Division One experience. Even so, we put up a brave performance, skipper Andy Ogg leading the way as we won the first period 6-5. After that, Central steadily made up the deficit, progressing from 10-23 (on handicap) at the half-way stage to lead for the first time – 24-23 – with a minute and a half left. Ian Chesworth equalised. But, following a Bradford exclusion and time-out, Central scored the winner 24 seconds from the end – Nick Hume’s 12th of the match!

Bradford 9 Bristol Central III 23
Bradford received a lesson in shooting and control of possession in this friendly from a very experienced Central team, of whom ex-GB goalkeeper Andy Crawford played out and scored seven goals. But this was still a notable occasion for a couple of Bradford players. Jim Robinson turned out for the first time since undergoing major surgery last year, bagging four goals – welcome back Jim! And there was an excellent first-ever goal for new player Dan Penno.

Bradford 7 UWIC 11
If ever a match illustrated the benefits of attacking the deep end, this was it! Bradford won the second and fourth periods 2-0 and 4-1, with Hugh Gaskell-Taylor in good shooting form. Unfortunately, the Welsh team, who were preparing for the BUCS (formerly BUSA) Champs in Sheffield, also relished playing in the same direction. They led 4-1 after the first period and added six without reply in the third. Game over!

Swindon Dolphin 14 Bradford 5
In this return friendly, Bradford held their own in the early stages against Swindon’s most experienced players. Then Swindon gave some of their juniors some match practice – and we fell apart. Coaching such an unpredictable team isn’t easy – just ask Jim Robinson!

Bath University 3 Bradford 8
A comfortable win to start the B&W season, even if a full-size pitch proved a severe challenge for both teams. Best goal of the night was Stuart Moore’s first for Bradford – although Jon D-W may argue with that after his spectacular effort from just inside the Bradford half (it spoils it if we reveal that the University goalkeeper had gone walk-about at the time).
26.02.09
Bradford 8 Swindon Dolphin 13
A useful friendly in which Bradford led more experienced opponents 4-2 early on and recovered from two goals down to level at 6-6 in the third before Swindon took charge. Goalkeeper Roger Chapman boosted Bradford with several excellent saves. New captain Andy Ogg scored three and Hugh Gaskell-Taylor two.
