Bradford Win B&W Cup!
It was close in the last couple of minutes, but Bradford managed to defeat Weston-super-Mare 12-11 in an exciting final of the Bristol & West KO Cup at Bristol University (16 October).
The cup campaign has been one of the highlights of the season. The league handicappers certainly knew their stuff because in all four rounds – all, incidentally, away from home – we were given a start and always just managed to battle through. Results were: BoA (+18) 23 Bristol Central 21; BoA (+28) 31 Cheltenham 27; BoA (+3) 12 Harlequins 11; BoA (+6) 12 Weston 11. So we conceded 70 goals – and still brought the trophy home! Outstanding. . . .

We're in the semi-final!!
Bradford may have conceded 48 goals in two B&W KO matches this season . . . but who cares? We’re in the semi-final!! Latest success (after a 28-goal start) was a 31-27 away win over Cheltenham. Next stop? Harlequins or Swindon, away.

Good luck to Martin Post who, after moving to Cornwall during the summer, will be competing in TWO iron man events! Apparently, no one else from Bradford seems keen on entering…

Hugh’s New Career
Farewell Hugh Gaskell-Taylor! Our only left-hander made his last appearance in the home victory over Harlequins before leaving to begin a career in the Royal Navy. Hugh has been a tremendous servant to the club since joining as a Bath University student, memorably organising the most recent BoA annual dinner. Good luck Hugh!

Hugh's Trophy
Congratulations to Hugh Gaskell-Taylor, winner of the Clubman of the Year award at Bradford’s annual dinner, which was held at the excellent Canal Tavern. It’s just a pity that Hugh, our only left-hander – who manages to combine goal-scoring (when occasionally on target) with organising splendid social events – is heading off soon to join the Navy. Good luck, Hugh. And thanks for your great contribution to the club.

Ian Departs
The club also bid farewell (for a while anyway) to another key member, Ian Chesworth, who has left the area following his latest posting in the RAF. Ian is a regular member of the RAF team, winners for the past five years of the Inter-Services title.

Simon bows out
Simon Durrant announced his retirement before making one final appearance – so he reckons – in the friendly match at Weston. We’ll do our best to talk him back at some point in the future. But thanks, Simon, for your loyal service between the sticks for Bradford teams stretching back over three decades!
